Grunge entered high fashion in 1992 with Marc Jacobs’s now-infamous collection for Perry Ellis; he was fired from the label soon after. In the same year, Vogue published Stephen Meisel's seminal "Grunge & Glory" editorial in its December issue. Examples of street fashion and youth subculture influencing high-end design, Jacobs’s collection and Meisel’s editorial mirrored the whimsical layering, strong use of plaid and scruffy aesthetic of the grunge movement.
